Building Basketball Skills With Jam Sports Academy
Since starting in 2016, Jam Sports Academy has become a key training spot for young basketball talent in the UAE.
Led by Academy Head Eli Haykal, Jam Sports Academy has grown to serve over 400 students, with 27 teams competing locally and internationally. But Jam’s vision, ss Haykal explains, is about building skills, character, and a sense of community among young athletes.
Jam started with a simple goal; to create a place where kids could learn basketball and develop life skills.
“We wanted kids to have a space where they could grow and have fun.”
Starting with a few teams, the academy now welcomes kids from ages 4 to 18. Recently, Jam’s teams achieved a major milestone, securing third place in an international tournament—an impressive feat for a UAE basketball team.
‘Test their skills at a high level’
The academy teaches young athletes skills and values that will serve them well in life. Younger children are introduced to basketball in a fun, engaging way, while older players focus on developing their skills and understanding the game.
“We also work on discipline, time management, and health habits. These lessons help our athletes on the court and in their everyday lives.”
One of Jam Sports Academy’s strengths is its coaching staff. All coaches are FIBA-certified and follow a consistent training program designed by the academy’s technical director.
“The structured curriculum allows kids to build their skills as they move through different age groups,” says Haykal. Jam also provides mentorship for young assistant coaches, helping them grow in their roles and pass on their knowledge to the next generation of players.
Jam Sports Academy stands out by offering its players the chance to compete abroad. Each year, Jam’s teams travel to tournaments in countries like the USA, Spain, Greece, and Italy.
“We want our players to experience different playing styles and test their skills at a high level”
Haykal shares. This summer, Jam’s team brought home third place from a tournament in Italy, representing the UAE and showcasing their hard work on an international stage.
Helping Athletes Reach Higher Goals
For many young athletes, basketball can open doors to further opportunities, and Jam Sports Academy supports them on that path. The academy has helped players earn scholarships at places like the American University in Dubai and various schools in the United States.
“When parents come to us with college plans, we work to find options and scholarships that fit.”
While Jam doesn’t have formal university partnerships, its network helps connect players with schools that match their academic and athletic goals.
