The Dubai Sharks RFC, a rugby club with a remarkable journey of growth and development, has earned a well-deserved promotion to the UAE Premiership, following their victory in the UAE Division 1 final against the Abu Dhabi Harlequins in Al Ain.

This promotion marks a significant milestone in the history of the Dubai Sharks, a club that has seen exponential growth over the past few years. Just four years ago, the club’s membership totaled a mere 47, including social members based overseas. Today, the club boasts over 600 members in its mini and youth setups, 104 senior men and women players, and around 160 members in its netball section. Next season, the club plans to introduce an Under 18s side, aiming to create a steady flow of players for the senior team.

The journey to the Premiership has been a testament to the Sharks’ dedication and hard work. Their triumph in the Division 1 final was a display of skill and determination, as they overcame the Harlequins in a closely contested match. This victory not only secured their place in the Premiership but also highlighted the club’s potential to compete at the highest level of UAE rugby.

Promotion to the Premiership brings with it a new set of challenges and opportunities. The Sharks will now face away fixtures in Bahrain and Doha, as well as weekly encounters against the leading sides in the UAE. The experience gained from these fixtures though, should prove invaluable, helping the team to adapt to the higher level of competition and refine their strategies. It was only 5 years ago, that the Dubai Tigers made a similar jump up in levels and they have just been crowned West Asia Premiership Champions for 2023/24.
