UAE Finals Day Is Upon Us Again – Heres Our Guide To The Weekendโs Action
After nearly seven months of graft, the season all comes down to this, UAE Finals Day is upon us again and here is Yalla Rugbyโs guide to the weekendโs action:
UAE Premiership Final โ Dubai Exiles v Abu Dhabi Harlequins (18:30 KO)
These two sides have produced a series of classic encounters throughout the season and come face to face again just under a month after Quinsโ narrow 28-25 Premiership Cup triumph. While the capital city side have not been able to replicate their dominance of last season, they still arguably remain the team everyone wants to beat in the UAE and only narrowly missed out on reclaiming the West Asia title due to Jebel Ali Dragons upset win away at Bahrain. Exiles meanwhile have arguably been the leagueโs form side since the turn of the year, building on their Dubai 7s triumph to win six games on the bounce including a 37-30 win over Quins and an impressive away win over the Dragons in the West Asia Cup. While they fell short in the Final out in Bahrain they can take plenty of confidence into the season finale. With both sides finding their strength in depth put to the test as the season draws to a close, this could be a case of the side who outlasts the other in what is sure to be another bruising encounter coming out on top. We canโt wait.
Prediction โ Harlequins edge another thriller
UAE Conference Top 5 Final โ Dubai Tigers v Sharjah Wanderers 2s (15:00 KO)
Should be another humdinger. These two could barely be separated over the course of the regular season, with just points difference seeing Tigers finish ahead of Sharjah and atop the regular season standings. This has already been a memorable campaign for both clubs, with old stagers Sharjah marking their 40th anniversary whilst upstart Tigers marked their breakthrough into the upper echelons of the Conference after consecutive Bottom Half wins in previous seasons. Both come into the final in good form and off the back of emphatic semi-final wins so this could certainly go either way. Tigers start as slight favourites in our eyes having not tasted defeat since November โ however, worth noting their opponents on that day were none other than…Sharjah Wanderers.
Prediction โ Tigers too strong
<h3″>UAE Conference Bottom 4 Final โ Al Ain Amblers v Jebel Ali Dragons 2s (18:30 KO)
If any game on Friday looks sure to guarantee excitement for the neutral, it would have to be this one. The previous two meetings between the sides this season have put over 160 points between them and with both outfits warming up for the final by breaking the 50 point mark in their final league fixtures we can expect something of a shoot-out. Both sides will have been expecting to contend in the Top 5 this year, with Al Ain only narrowly losing out in last seasonโs final, so this match represents a last opportunity for both to salvage some pride from their respective campaigns.
Prediction โ Dragons come out on top in a try fest
UAE Community Final โ Jebel Ali Dragons 3s v Abu Dhabi Harlequins 3s (15:00 KO)
A repeat of last seasonโs final in the Community league after Beaver Nomads and RAK both faltered in the closing weeks after mounting serious challenges to make the final. Both have only lost one game throughout the league season regularly churning out bonus point wins in the process. When the sides met back in February at Zayed Sport City, Quins ran out comfortable 37-5 winners so should start with a psychological advantage but the Dragons will draw their own confidence from coming in to the final on the back off winning what was essentially an eliminator against Beaver Nomads.
Prediction โ Back to back titles for the Dragons
